Registration open for Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020
Teams of students invited to register for Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020 in Dubai
Registration has opened for the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020.
SDME 2020, which will take place in Dubai, is a competition which challenges multi-disciplinary teams of students to design and build a solar-powered house.
The competition is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council,
Teams are tasked with building a solar-powered concept home, which is then tested across multiple areas of performance, sustainability and other factors.
The Solar Decathlon was created by the US Department of Energy, to give students the opportunity to learn about technical issues, teamwork, communication skills, and sustainable lifestyle and socio-economic issues through creating the test homes.
In the Middle East, SDME is organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, with support from the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. In the regional event, teams are also challenged to create designs which will accommodate the heat, dust and high humidity conditions in the Arabian Gulf, and to include elements of traditional culture and architecture in their thinking.
Registrations for the SDME 2020 are open until 30th June at www.solardecathlonme.com
