The sixth edition of World Green Economy Summit (WGES) 2019 will be held under a new theme, ‘Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Economy’.

The event, which is organised by World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), will take place in Dubai on 20-21st October.

This year, the summit will focus on three key pillars including sustainable development, international cooperation towards a green economy system and adoption of green innovative solutions across varied sectors.

WGES will be held in conjunction with the 21st edition of Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and the fourth edition of Dubai Solar Show and the sixth edition of the Green Week.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: “The summit is in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to promote sustainable development in the UAE, which is a vital aspect of the UAE Centennial 2071, for the UAE to be the best country in the world by that date. Additionally, the summit aligns well with the UAE Vision 2021, Dubai Plan 2021 as well as our continuous pursuit to achieve the goals of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 which indicates that 7% of Dubai's total power output will be derived from clean energy by 2020, rising to 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050, that will ensure Dubai becomes a global hub for the green economy.

HE Al Tayer added: “In line with the green and sustainable development efforts, the summit’s agenda derives from the visionary directives, principles and commandments laid out by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in ‘The 50-Year Charter’, the ‘Eight Principles of Governance’ in Dubai and the ‘10 Commandments of Governance’ as detailed in His Highness’s latest book, Qissati (My Story), chronicling His Highness’s 50 years of National service.”

Al Tayer said: “We aim to achieve from the new theme – ‘Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Economy’ to focus on key elements to reach a genuine and successful green economy. Our aim is to underscore key pillars, including sustainable development, international cooperation towards a green economy system and adoption of green innovative solutions that will reinforce the position of Dubai as a global capital of green economy and sustainable development.”
